USC NSBE INITIATIVES

"To increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community."

The University of Southern California NSBE Chapter is deeply committed to upholding the NSBE mission, and supporting national directives through our campus and community involvement.

Academic Excellence

USC NSBE has a strategic academic support network for undergraduate and graduate engineering students at USC. While our goal is for each member to maintain at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA, we strive to ensure that all students achieve personal academic success. Through 1-1 mentorship , Guaranteed 4.0 implementation, and weekly study nights, we hope to foster academic excellence throughout our chapter.

We encourage all students to submit their transcripts to National NSBE (at scholarships@nsbe.org) and join the Academic Pyramid of Excellence (APEX). Benefits include discounted Conference Registration fees, VIP access to Career Fairs & more!

Pre-Collegiate Outreach

In addition to facilitating curricular support for members, NSBE provides academic support for high school students in the surrounding community. We facilitate a mentorship program, host workshops regarding the college application process, and tutor students through Collegebound, a pre-college preparatory program.

Although our primary focus is to usher nearby high school students into STEM majors, members also have the opportunity to work with younger children if they choose. Throughout the year, we schedule numerous volunteer opportunities with organizations like MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement), YSP (Young Scientists Program), ScienceOutreach, and Iridescent, which focus on planning interactive science projects for elementary and middle school students.
